Mixed Tournament (12/03/10) Abbey Meads A v Delta Blue (6/03/10) Saturday saw league leaders, Abbey Meads, take on Delta Blue. Abbey Meads got off to a storming start winning the first quarter 17 goals to 8 with awesome shooting from duo Emma Hunt and Jules Hewitt. Delta Blue came out strong in the 2nd quarter but were no match for the defensive trio Helen Maine, Suzi Lidbury and Helen Mcgrath. Coach Lorraine Bulpitt made changes at half time bringing on Rachel Hall to GA and Jo Monty at GD. Even though Abbey Meads took time to settle they extended their lead. The final quarter saw excellent feeding from Sara Kershaw into the shooters and a final push from Abbey Meads meant the lead extended further and the final score was Abbey Meads 49 Delta Blue 30. Another great weekend for Abbey Meads netball club saw all 4 teams winning their matches. Coach Lorraine Bulpitt said ” All the hard work and dedication from the girls at training is really paying off and the results could not be better. I am very proud of all of my teams and I am thrilled with how well the club is progressing this season.” Abbeymeads B v Park C (6/02/10) Abbey Meads A v Pinehurst A (23-01-10) Abbey Meads D v Ferndale C (7-11-09)After a close first half with the score level at 17-17. Susan Magss took herself off at quarter time, as she has only just recovered from swine flu. Not that you would think it by her play. Going into the 2nd quarter the new combinaton of Lyndsey and Shaunie Tuck playing a smooth and controlled game in the centre court. It was Gerogina Tuner’s first netball match since leaving school, she came on at half time and did a magnificint performacne.Abbey Meads D team took control and stormed ahead scoring 16 goals in the third quarter! Amazing shooting by Toni Andrews and Billi Skinner, helped by good feeds into the circle by Bianca Smithhurst saw the final score 49- 31 to Abbey Meads D.
A great team effort today. After having quite a lot of disruption from the weather, no matches and no training since December. It took Abbey Meads A team a long time to settle into the match.The first quarter was low scoring 6-7 with Pinehurst taking the lead by 1 goal. Into the 2nd quarter the Abbey Meads team started off well and pulled away with great shooting from Jules Hewitt and Emma Hunt. Abbey was leading 17-9.Changes made at half time saw Sam Thompson coming on at GA and Jules Hewitt moving across to WA.Abbey came out strong with amazing defending by the back three, Helen McGrath, Suzi Lidbury and Helen Maine. Steve Richmond, Pinehurst coach made a tactical change in the middle of third quarter replacing the shooter in injury time.However, this did not disrupt the flow of the Abbey Meads team as they were even more determined to win. The final score Abbey Meads 37 Pinehurst 26. Sam Thompson was given player of the matchAbbeymeads B v HIghworth D 23-01-10This was Abbeymeads first match since the beginning of December 09 due to the weather. The team started strongly with Sam Thompson resuming her previous good form despite the long break assisted by Sarah Large at Goal Shoot. At quarter time Abbey were 9-3 in the lead and they were never to relinquish it. Sarah Large moved to Wing Defence and the versatile Chrissie Lewis moved from Goal Keeper to Goal Shoot. By half time Abbey had stretched their lead to 23-9. There was some impressive movement down the court with good feeding into the circle by Wing Attack Laine Waite. The last half of the match saw some excellent defending by Cathy Gerrish at Goal Keeper and Sue Rolfe at Goal Defence, only allowing Highworth to score 8 goals. Highworth made several changes to try and stop the flow of goals but Abbeymeads finally won 47-14.Abbey Meads A v Highworth A (7-11-09)A great team effort from Abbey Meads A. Outstanding shooting by Emma Hunt and Jules Hewitt saw the team win the 1st quarter. The awesome defence of Helen Mcgrath, Suzi Lidbury and Alison Bray made sure that Abbey Meads has secured the lead at half time by 7 goals. Abbey Meads made changes in the 2nd half with Jo Monty coming on at GD, Suzi Lidbury crossing to WD and Alison Bray moving to Centre.Highworth came back fighting and were determined to win and going into the last quarter Highworth were only 3 goals away from levelling the score. Highworth, again came out strong in the last quarter and finally levelled the score with 5 minutes to go. But with sheer grit and determination, Jo Monty and Jules Hewitt made some crucial interceptions. They passed the ball to the experienced Sara Kershaw who calmed the game down, feeding perfect balls to the shoots. This helped make sure that Abbey meads would regain control. Fabulous shooting from Emma Hunt in the last quarter meant that Abbey Meads won the game 31-38! Abbey Meads C v Ferndale B (7-11-09) After the nerves had settled Abbey Meads produced great pace in the first quarter going ahead 9 - 3 due to great movement in centre court by Maria Hawkins and Phillipa Thompson. The second quarter saw Abbey settled and in control with great spacing produced by Lisa Mutton. By half time the score was 20 - 12. In the third quarter Abbey Meads made a couple of substitutions and continued their lead. Going into the final quarter leading 28 - 16 Abbey Meads produced some great netball with consistent shooting from Becky Tee and Megan Hynes. Throughout the match Laura Harris, Sarah Piggott, Nicola Gillhespy and Pat Durham created a strong defence resulting in a 40 - 22 victory at full time.
